體型特徵:肌肉不健壯,鬆軟不實
常見表現:元氣不足,平素語音低怯,氣短懶言,肢體容易疲乏,精神不振,易出汗,舌淡紅,舌體胖大,邊有齒痕,脈象虛緩
甚者見面色偏黃或白,目光少神,口淡,唇色少華,毛髮不華,頭暈,健忘,大便正常,或有便秘但不結硬,或大便不成形,便後仍覺未盡,小便正常或偏多
心理特徵:性格內向、易怯、不喜歡冒險
發病傾向:衛表不固易患感冒、內臟下垂、虛勞等病;或病後抗病能力弱康復緩慢、遷延不愈
氣屬陽。"氣"被視為人體生長發育、臟腑運轉、體內物質運輸、傳遞和排泄的基本推動能源。元氣充盛才能防病健身,延年長生。氣主要來源於腎中先天之精氣、脾胃吸收的水谷精氣、肺吸入的新鮮空氣。
養生法:補中益氣
宜吃甘溫補氣食物,五谷類,小米、糯米、粳米等養胃氣。大棗、山藥、雞肉、牛肉 等。
忌生冷、耗氣食物,生蘿蔔 、通菜、檳榔、胡椒、山楂等。
運動能加快血液循環速度,令閉塞經絡暢通,加快身陳代謝,有助陽氣的舒發。
但對於氣虛體質之人,氣本已不足,過於頻繁或過度激烈的運動會過份耗傷精氣,反而導致正氣損傷。故氣虛之人運動鍛煉應由少漸多,由輕至重。內功,太極之類是最佳選擇。
再者運動時間也很重要,中醫強調順應自然,《黃帝內經‧素問‧生氣通天論》記載有:「故陽氣者,一日而主外,平旦人氣生,日中而陽氣隆,日西而陽氣已虛,氣門乃閉,是故暮而收拒,無擾筋骨,無見霧露。反此三時,形乃困薄。」日出而作,日落而息。隨著太陽的升降,身體的陽氣也在升降。故應該在日間有陽光時進行運動鍛煉,才能強身健體,夜間陽氣收藏,夜間運動會調動本該收藏的陽氣,對身體沒有任何益處。
充足睡眠。睡眠是人體恢復元氣、體力的主要方法。
可艾炙氣海、中脘穴 (氣海-臍下1.5寸、中脘-臍上4寸)
揉按足三里穴 (外膝眼下三寸)
腹式呼吸法。由鼻慢慢吸氣,吸氣時腹部凸起,每口氣堅持10~15秒,再徐徐呼出,呼氣時壓縮腹部令腹部凹入,頻率以每分鐘呼吸4次為佳。如出現胸悶氣短,呼吸不暢等不良反應應停止。
小米山藥粥
小米100克,山藥50克,冰糖適量。將小米洗淨煮熟,山藥切片或切粒,在粥煮好前5分鐘放入,煮好再加少許冰糖。
具補益心腎,健脾和胃作用。
人參大棗粥
人參6克,大棗5枚,大米60克。大棗先去核,與人參同煮,三者加水熬粥。能補中益氣。
四君子湯。
人參、白術、茯苓各9克、炙甘草6克,水煎服。
人參補中,白術健脾燥濕,茯苓滲濕健脾,炙甘草甘緩和中。
Body physique: weak and loose muscles.
Common traits: lack of primary Qi; weak and timid voice; frequent panting and untalkative; gets tired easily; low spirited; sweats easily; thick and pale red tongue with teeth marks; Forceless and moderate pulse (Xu Mai, Huan Mai).
Yellow or white face complexion; dull eyes; weak sense of taste; pale lips; dull hair; dizziness; forgetful; defecation may be normal, or have constipation but not hard stool, or with shapeless stool; feeling of incomplete defecation; normal or excess urination.
Personality traits: introverted, timid, and not adventurous.
Tendency of illness: Usually have unconsolidated and weak Wei Qi on the surface of body, so easily catches cold, have abdominal ptosis, or consumptive diseases. Low disease resistance and slow recovery after sickness.
Qi belongs to Yang. Qi is seen as the basic source of energy for growth, functioning of organs, circulation of body substances, and excretion. Having sufficient primary Qi is the key in preventing diseases and maintaining a long life. Qi is mainly generated from the kidney as renal innate essence, from the spleen and stomach as acquired food essence, and from fresh air respirated by the lungs.
Health regimen: Tonify the middle and augment the Qi
Eat sweet and warm natured food, which helps tonifies chi. This includes five grains, millet, sticky rice, and japonica rice. They help nourishes the stomach Qi. Jujube, Chinese yam, chicken, and beef is also recommended.
However, raw, cold food, and qi depleting food should be avoided. These include raw carrots, water spinach, betel nut, pepper, and Chinese hawthorn fruit.
Do moderate exercise but avoid exhaustion.
Sports can improve blood flow and smoothen the circulation of blocked meridians. This contributes to higher metabolism and help vent out yang qi.
However, for people who are Qi Deficient, overly frequent or intensive sports will deplete their already deficient Qi and essence, harming the healthy Qi. For that reason, Qi deficient people should gradually increase the amount and intensity of exercise. Breathing and meditation techniques such as Nei gong and Tai Qi are bith good choices of exercise.
Time of exercise is also important. TCM emphasizes conformity with nature. In the ancient Chinese medical text Huangdi Neijing, also known as the Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor, it is mentioned that:
「故陽氣者,一日而主外,平旦人氣生,日中而陽氣隆,日西而陽氣已虛,氣門乃閉」“The yang qi moves like the sun. As the sun begins to rise at dawn, the yang qi begins to move to the outer body, and the pores open. The peak of the yang qi is at noon, and when the yang qi is most active it is advisable to relax and stay in quiet so that the yang qi does not escape. As the sunsets, the yang qi moves inward and pores begin to close. “
「是故暮而收拒,無擾筋骨,無見霧露。反此三時,形乃困薄。」
“At this time it is harmful to engage in strenuous physical activity or expose oneself to cold, damp, mist, or fog. If one violates the natural order of the yang qi as it rises, peaks, and sets, the body will gradually be weakened by pathogenic factors and be subject to diseases and degeneration.”
“Work as the sun rise, rest as the sun sets”. Our Yang Qi fluctuates with the rise and fall of the sun. Thus, exercise should be done in daytime for strengthening physique. Yang Qi is stored during nighttime and doing exercise during nighttime will deplete those Yang Qi, which does no good to the body.
Have sufficient sleep. Sleep is the main way to recover primary Qi and stamina.
Perform moxibustion on Qihai (1.5 inch below navel) and Zhong Wan (4 inch above naval).
Massage Zusanli softly (3 inch below Xiyan).
Practice diaphragmatic breathing. Breath in slowly from the nose so the stomach pushes upwards. Breath in for around 10 to 15 seconds, then gradually exhale by compressing the stomach. Breath 4 times every minute. Stop if panting or shortness of breath is experienced.
Millet and Chinese Yam porridge
100 g Millet, 50g Chinese Yam, moderate amount of crystal sugar.
Wash and simmer the millet, cut the Chinese yam into slices or pieces and put them into the porridge for 5 minutes before its done. Add crystal sugar after cooking is done.
Helps invigorate heart and kidney, as well as the spleen and stomach.
Ginseng jujube porridge
6g Ginseng, 5 pieces of jujube, 60g rice.
Deseed the jujubes and simmer with ginseng and rice.
Helps tonify the middle and augment the qi.
Si Junzi Tang (the Four Gentlemen Decoction)
9g of Ginseng, 9g of atractylodes, 9g of Fu-ling (Poria mushrooms), 6g of honey fried licorice.
Boil ingredients with water.
Ginseng helps tonifies the middle, while atractylodes helps invigorating the spleen and removes dampness, Fu-ling also invigorates the spleen and removes dampness, and licorice relaxes and regulates Zong Qi.
